Safeguarding Policy

At Stars College, the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. We are committed to providing a secure and inclusive environment where all children feel valued, protected, and empowered to learn. Our Safeguarding Policy outlines our approach to preventing and responding to any allegations or concerns regarding the safety and welfare of our students.

. Purpose and Scope

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Ensure that all staff, students, and parents understand the importance of safeguarding and their shared responsibility in protecting children.
  • Establish clear guidelines for identifying, reporting, and handling safeguarding concerns.
  • Promote a culture of vigilance where safeguarding is recognized as everyone’s responsibility.

This policy applies to all members of the Stars College community, including staff, volunteers, parents, and students.

2. Commitment to Safeguarding

Stars College is dedicated to safeguarding children against abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We uphold the following principles:

  • All students have the right to a safe environment free from harm and abuse.
  • Staff are trained to recognize and respond to signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • We work collaboratively with parents, guardians, and the wider community to ensure the welfare of our students.

3. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): A designated staff member is appointed as the primary point of contact for safeguarding concerns. The DSL is responsible for overseeing and coordinating safeguarding efforts, including reporting incidents to appropriate authorities.
  • All Staff Members: Every staff member is obligated to report any concerns regarding a child’s safety, including disclosures or suspicions of abuse. Staff will undergo regular safeguarding training to stay informed of best practices.
  • Parents and Guardians: We encourage parents to be actively involved in their children’s well-being and to report any concerns they may have regarding their child or another student’s safety.

4. Reporting Procedures

If a safeguarding concern arises, the following steps should be taken:

  1. Immediate Action: If a child is in immediate danger, call emergency services right away.
  2. Report to DSL: Any staff member who has concerns should report them to the Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately. Concerns can also be reported anonymously.
  3. Documentation: All safeguarding concerns must be documented factually, including dates, times, witnesses, and any actions taken.
  4. Follow-Up: The DSL will investigate the concern appropriately and will involve external agencies as needed.

5. Confidentiality and Information Sharing

Confidentiality is paramount when dealing with safeguarding issues. Information regarding safeguarding concerns will only be shared with relevant parties on a ‘need-to-know’ basis. All actions taken will be documented to ensure transparency and accountability.

6. Curriculum and Awareness

Stars College is committed to educating students about their rights and the importance of safeguarding. The curriculum will include:

  • Workshops on personal safety, self-advocacy, and online safety.
  • Programs that promote a safe and supportive school environment that encourages students to speak up.

7. Regular Review and Training

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains effective and relevant. All staff members will receive regular safeguarding training, and updates will be provided to ensure adherence to best practices in child protection.
